Quick answer

The show is at the Leisureland Theatre, beside the Salthill promenade, the seaside district on Galway Bay. A city bus links Salthill with Eyre Square, and the promenade starts at the Claddagh for anyone who prefers to walk. Collect your tickets at the venue on the evening, and check the clock time in your confirmation.

Salthill is a seaside area to the south-west of Galway city centre. Wikipedia says its promenade, known locally as the Prom, overlooks Galway Bay and opened in the middle of the 19th century. It became a bathing resort in the 19th century. Galway Tourism calls Leisureland a modern leisure centre and theme park on the promenade, and says a seafront amusement park operates on the site in summer. The show's theatre sits next to the promenade, so a seafront walk is part of the evening. Wikipedia adds that a tramway once linked Salthill with the city, running from 1879 until 1918.

From the city centre

Salthill is close enough to reach on foot or by bus. Galway Tourism says the promenade starts at the Claddagh, so a walk along the bay brings you to it, and a bus runs from Eyre Square. Wikipedia says that a Bus Éireann city service runs between Salthill and Eyre Square, and that other routes pass through the district. Timetables change, so check the current ones before you set off, and allow time on the way back, because a late bus may not suit every evening.

Tickets and seats

Seats are assigned at booking, and one booking can take up to ten tickets. You collect the tickets at the venue on the evening, so take the confirmation along and know whose name the booking is under. Your confirmation states the time for your date. None is printed here, because the season moves them. If someone in your party has an access need, ask the venue before the day, since this guide has no information on access.

The promenade and the diving tower

The promenade is the draw of Salthill and the natural place to spend the hour before the show. Wikipedia says Blackrock Diving Tower is a landmark on it, and that people jump from it into the sea on Christmas Day for charity. Galway Tourism notes that it was first a metal-framed springboard and later took its present form. In summer, with a theatre date, a stroll to the tower and back is an easy way to fill the time.

On the Wild Atlantic Way

The Wild Atlantic Way is a tourism trail on Ireland's west coast. Wikipedia describes a driving route of about 2,500 kilometres through nine counties, from the Inishowen Peninsula in Donegal to Kinsale in County Cork. Galway sits on the route, and the show's billing places the theatre on it. You do not need a car for the show; the route matters here mainly as a way to place Salthill on the map of the west coast.

What to bring

Bring your confirmation, a layer for the evening, and a phone on silent. The show's billing says flash photography is not allowed, so leave the flash off. Salthill sits on the Atlantic coast and a summer evening can turn cool or wet quickly, which makes a coat easy to regret leaving behind. Eat before or after; the booking does not include a meal. If you walk, wear shoes that will cope with the seafront.

Who this isn't for

If the show's dates do not fit your trip, nothing in this guide makes them. If you are staying far from the city centre, the journey to Salthill and back is a real cost of time. Plan a meal elsewhere if you hoped to eat at the venue. And if you want to hear music with no travel at all, the Latin Quarter has trad sessions in the middle of the city.
